Is Whoop Waterproof? Here’s What You Need to Know

Published

Whoop is not waterproof. This fitness tracker has its measure of water pressure set at 1 ATM, meaning Whoop has tested it on a depth of 10 meters. Keep in mind that Whoop conducts its water-resistant testing in a controlled laboratory environment, so your actual usage experience is likely to vary.

Although Whoop can go under water, you must not leave it submerged for longer than 2 hours, or you risk damaging its components and battery pack and inner components.

Can Whoop Strap 3.0 and 4.0 Get Wet?

Whoop 3.0 and 4.0 can get wet despite not being truly waterproof fitness trackers. With an IP68 rating, these devices can withstand water pressures equivalent to 10 meters in fresh water.

You’re free to use Whoop in the shower, swimming pool, sauna, and hot tubs. However, your Strap shouldn’t stay in water or moist environment for longer than 120 minutes.

Can I Shower With Whoop Strap?

You can shower with your Whoop fitness tracker. Doing so is one of the easiest ways to clean the strap. Just ensure you use a dry piece of cloth or towel to wipe it dry before you get out of the shower.

Is Whoop Good for Swimming?

Whoop is good enough for swimming, but only in the sense that you don’t have to take it off your wrist to get into a swimming pool.

To put this into perspective, Whoop doesn’t track swim workouts. It will monitor your heart rate and time spent working out in water. However, it won’t log swimming stats such as strokes, laps, and distance.

Swim tracking has never been a part of Whoop’s agenda. The brand’s primary focus is on helping you monitor stress, sleep, and recovery. And they’ve remained true to this objective based on the available data.

Can I Wear Whoop Sauna and Hot Tubs?

Steam and infrared saunas operate at a temperature range of 38°C to 65°C and Whoop strap works optimally at a temperature range of 0°C to 60°C. Therefore, you can wear Whoop in the sauna to monitor your stress levels as you relax your muscles for physical recovery.

The shallowest hot tub is about 24 inches deep and the deepest one is around 31 inches deep, which is approximately 0.61 and 0.79 meters in depth respectively. Because Whoop is water-resistant up to 10 meters deep, you don’t have to take off your tracker to enter a hot bathtub.

How Long Can Whoop Resist Water?

In theory, it’s not clear how many months or years Whoop fitness tracker can retain its water resistance. The assumption is that the device’s ability to resist water pressure to the designated depth wears out over time, depending on the frequency of use.

From a user standpoint, though, your Whoop Strap can resist water for months as long as you keep it in good condition.

Below are three things you can do to keep the water resistance of the device at its peak for a long time:

  • Don’t ski with the tracker. Skiing is high velocity water sport is capable of degrading Whoop’s water resistance.
  • Avoid getting into contact with products such as detergents, shampoo, sunscreen, conditioner, and perfumes in the shower.
  • Don’t wear Whoop in water all the time, particularly in the times when you don’t necessarily need to.

Can Water Damage My Whoop Strap?

It’s unlikely that water will damage your Whoop fitness tracker. However, there are two important rules to keep in mind:

  • Do NOT submerge the tracker to a depth greater than 10 meters.
  • Do NOT leave the device submerged in water at any depth for more than 120 minutes (2 hours).

What Happens If Water Damages My Whoop Fitness Tracker?

If you get out of the shower, hot tub, or swimming pool and you notice that the tracker is not working anymore, take it off your wrist, dry under direct sunlight, and turn it on again. If the device still doesn’t turn on even after drying, send it back to Whoop for repair or free replacement.

Whoop offers a lifetime warranty to all its customers. The warranty guarantees you get a new Whoop Strap if the current one stops working, as long as you have an active Whoop membership.
